Basic Information

Clifton is located in Passaic County, in northern New Jersey. Population as of the 2010 US Census is just under 85,000 people. Major highways through Clifton are the Garden State Parkway, Route 3, Route 46 and Route 21.

The city of Clfiton was incorporated in 1917. It was formerly known as Acquackanonk Township. In the 1920 census -- the first after incorporation -- the Clifton population was 26,470 people. Perhaps the most well known sites in Clifton are the several anonymous local places used in filming the Sopranos. The movie Donnie Brasco (1996), starring  Johnny Depp and Al Pacino, was filmed partially in Clifton.
